Mom said she remembers one day when one of her kids came white faced with fright into the kitchen saying a giant rat was in the trash. Mom went out and looked and it was an opossum!
Well, this is a familiar sight! If the neighborhood kitties and ferals leave behind any of the food we put out for them each day, our very own critter just like this shows up to help himself. The other day, the mom here found one of these sleeping in the outdoor kitty house! And that very same night, one was waiting for her on the front porch!
You are very nice to share your food with a possum. Your Mom asked where we got our sweater from on our post today- Target. When you enter the store, there is an area with items for $1, 3 and 5 dollars. They always have dog coats and sweaters there for $5.
Years ago, my human grandpa was trying to trap a possum that was raiding his garden. One night he found Grandma feeding it goodies, which sort of defeated the purpose of making it want to go live elsewhere. Ba haha.
Mom will never forget the day that Ciara and Lightning both dove headfirst into the brush under a fir tree while on their way down the driveway for a walk and together pulled out one of those critters by the back. He was a bit stunned but then took off as quickly as his little feet would go:)
Well, I am surprised that this it the first time that he has shown up! I don't mind the opossum...I actually like them. They do not carry rabies, avoid the cats, and don't do damage. Well, other than eating my snails from the pond...
I hope your new friend has nice manners and behaves himself so he can stay.
Sure a weird looking cat haha but he has to eat too.
